Welcome and thank you for coming to the project website for the Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Bridge Replacement Project. The project has now moved into the final design and is underway. Between summer 2012 and late 2015, a design/build team led by The Middlesex Corporation under the direction of MassDOT, will replace the current Burns Bridge with a new steel deck arch bridge. Construction of the new bridge will cost approximately $89 million. The replacement of the Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Bridge is a signature initiative of the Patrick-Murray Administrations historic Accelerated Bridge Program. The replacement bridge will carry Route 9, known as Belmont Street in Worcester and Turnpike Road in Shrewsbury, over Lake Quinsigamond. The project team invites you to look through the website, learn more about the project, browse the materials developed to support the public involvement process, or ask the project's public involvement specialist a question. The View Ahead: On May 6, 2013 construction on Lake Avenue North and Belmont Street, related to the Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Bridge replacement project will cause mimimal changes to traffic patterns in the area around the bridge. Learn more on the progress reporting page or see the media release. Public Safety Announcement: The first of priority of MassDOT and its Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Bridge project team is public safety. This summer, the configuration of the construction site for Lake users will be different from last summer. Boaters are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with the latest boating safety memo.
